A Painting A Day: Rib Heap

Hi. This one is kind of a Halloween one and painted on Halloween. I used to draw these ribs a lot, in piles and hanging. There's definitely a Philip Guston influence anytime I paint a heap of anything. I like how these ones are precariously balanced, like a sick game of Jenga. They're not just thrown in a pile but are balanced and arranged. More goofy than morbid though. I'll probably list this one on eBay later in the week.

A Painting A Day: Smirk

Hi. This is a pretty simple one. I think the washed out colors worked out well. Also gave me an excuse to open my tube of magenta to outline the polka dots with. I see the same little white shape in four out of my first five paintings. It's like a rounded star shape. It looks like those stickers you put on the bottom of your bathtub to give you some traction. In this one it's like one of those Gorbachev forehead marks.

Painting A Day #4 Hoot

This is a continuation of the idea of yesterday's painting. It's a kind of Mr. Potatohead approach, adding facial features to a basic form. In a crazier way than Mr. Potatohead allowed though.

Painting A Day #3 Food Run

Hi. Painting #3, still just getting started. This one is definitely closer to the pop surrealism I'm going for.

A Painting A Day #2 Springhead

Painting #2

I used to draw these spring-necked characters a lot. They remind me of those amusement park animatronic puppets. The ha ha background is also something I have used in the past. In this version I tried to make it look kind of like a torn paper background but it's all painted on.

Painting A Day #1 Drop In

Hi. This is my first post for my new Painting A Day blog. I actually tried to start this yesterday on my own website but the blog software was really buggy so I'm going to use this Blogger site. But I did get a painting done yesterday and today, so I have two to show! So here goes..
